Way Out in Left Field

My wife and I were having a discussion about politics this morning while eating breakfast, and I had what I believe is a significant insight into why some of the Democrats are moving so far to the left (abortion, open borders, Medicare for all, free education, etc.). My wife asked the question, "What's going to happen if Democrats regain power?" My first thought was that it will go back to being what it was like when President Obama was in office, and the Republicans will have to play the obstructionist role, like the Democrats are doing now. During Obama's reign, the push was towards regulation, environment, entitlements, social issues, health care, military cutbacks, open borders, etc. The current Democratic party seems to want to amplify all of those issues again. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) seems to be the most extreme, but Kamala Harris is also parroting some of the same stuff. Regarding Nancy Pelosi, it's all about staying in power. So, my first response to my wife's question was, "It will go back to being like it was when Obama was President." But, there seems to be a bit more to it this time around. The push for legalizing full-term abortions seems to indicate that there is an audience that Democrats are attempting to connect with that does not have a concern for traditional morality. I can see why Democratic candidates like to promise free stuff, and why they want open borders; those mean they will increase their voter base. But, why the push for legalized full-term abortion? I know that it's to attract women voters, but there is more to it than that, in my opinion. The thought that occurred to me is that our society is becoming more immoral. There is a trend toward legalizing sinful behavior. If Democrats wish to attract votes from the people who do not believe in traditional morality, they need to support the idea of making sinful behavior acceptable. Of course, if you don't believe in sin, you don't think there is any such thing as sinful behavior. That, to me, is a big problem.
